Artist potter of Asahi-yaki*

Director of the Association Born as the eldest son of Hosai XV, head of recognized atelier of Asahi-yaki. He inherited the atelier as Hozai XVI in 2016. He passionately pursued his activities abroad through exhibitions of his works, tea ceremonies and colloquia to introduce the Japanese tea culture. He made pottery in Bernard Leach's studio in St Ives, England, and exhibited his works there. He also did an exhibition of his ceramics and organized the tea ceremony in the Guimet Museum in Paris.

木村英昭(備前焼)
KIMURA Hideaki

木村英昭 KIMURA HIDEAKI

Artist potter of Bizen-yaki*

Vice President of the Association since April 2017
Head of the provisional office in Spain

Born as the eldest son of Tozan Kimura XVII, head of the pottery atelier "Tokeido" who is a prestigious potter of Bizen-yaki. The atelier has continued its activities for 400 years. Mr. Hideaki Kimura has exhibited his collection in Australia, India, Indonesia, France and Spain. He took part as an organizer at the tea ceremony in Algeria on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Algeria and Japan and also at the one in Spain.

田原 崇雄(萩焼)

Artist potter of Hagi-yaki
Vice President of the Association since April 2018

Born as the eldest son of Tobe Tahara XIII, head of the recognized pottery atelier. Degree in sculpture faculty of Tokyo University of the Arts in 2005. Master in 2007. Lecturer at Yokohama University of Arts and Design until 2010. He did his apprenticeship in the atelier of famous potter Mr. Seiya Toyob and then began to make pottery in his father's workshop.

亀井 久彰(高取焼)

亀井 久彰 KAMEI HISAAKI

Artist potter of Takatori-yaki*

Director of the Association
Born as the eldest son of Miraku XV, chief potter of pottery Takatori-yaki. He graduated from the Faculty of Business Administration of Hosei University in 2014 and from the Municipal Pottery School in Kyoto in 2016. He also apprenticed to his father.
The Takatori-yaki pottery atelier became a supplier to the lord of the Chikuzen-Kuroda (Fukuoka Prefecture in nowadays) in 1606. The Atelier then changed location several times, but managed to continue his activities for more than 400 years old. Almost 30 years after the founding of the atelier, he invited Mr. Enshu Kobori, legendary master of tea ceremony and developed the concept of "kirei-sabi" which translates into fine and symmetrical ceramics covered by an iridescent glaze gradation.
Mr. Kamei invented new methods, for example "sai-yu" by combining traditional techniques and his knowledge acquired during his apprenticeship in Kyoto. He exhibits his works with his father in department stores in various region in Japan as well as in Boston. He also teaches at the Fukuoka Municipal High School and Cultural Center.

大隈 優子(書家)
OKUMA Yuko

大隈 優子 OKUAM Yuko

Japanese Calligrapher

Director of the Association Born in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture. Started calligraphy at the age of three.
During his university studies, he attended the calligraphy teacher training course at Osaka Shogakuin School run by the Nippon Shodo Kyoiku Gakkai Association. She learned basic skills, classical and advanced technique and obtained the calligraphy teacher’s degree at age 21.
She studied Kanji with Mr. Aomori Nakamura and Shakyo with Matsushima Kishimoto in the Japanese Society for Calligraphy Education.
After graduating from university, she pursued activities that did not belong to any calligraphy school. She works freelance announcer at the private television channel in Osaka and NHK.

She passed the test of competence in teaching the Japanese language. She teaches businessmen of foreign companies in Tokyo.
Through experiences of Japanese teaching, she recognized the value of language. Currently, she is active as a calligrapher and TV announcer in Japan and abroad.

森 宗勇 (裏千家)
MORI Soyu

森 宗勇 MORI SOYU

Master of tea
President of the Association
Born in the prefecture Chiba. The 16th heir of MORI seidayu (the heretic name of generation to generation) who was the chief vassal of Kururi fief in Chiba. Mori seidayu the 1st was one of the descendants of the Big lord MORI Tadamasa (1570-1634) whose elder brother was MORI Ranmaru. The last was the close of the famous lord at the time, Lord. ODA Nobunaga, and was defeated to die with the lord.

He went to France to study the manufacture of organs in 1998. After his return to Japan, he worked as a producer at the national chain NHK.
He learned of the tea ceremony of the Urasenke School from Mr. SEI Sosei, the pottery under Mr.KAWAI Makito, the potter's wheel under in the atelier Kasho-gama and the bamboo basketry under Mr. ISHI Takeo.
He was granted of the name Soyu by the head of the Urasenke school (the pseudonym provided to the tea master).
He pursues activities to introduce Japanese culture to the world in his own way, eg combining the tea ceremony with Japanese crafts, etc. He tries to inspire his projects with the enthusiasm of young artists.
- 2015; He was honored by Mr. Vicomte KURODA Eiji, heir to the former Kururi fiefdom by being given of a ladle of tea.
- 2016; Honored by Mr. Hounsai, the Grand head of the Urasenke School being given of the calligraphy painting by the latter's own hand, at the occasion of the ceremony in Algeria.
- 2018; Honored by Mr. Hounsai as well as Prof. Zabousai, the head of the Urasenke School and given of the calligraphy painting by Prof.Hounsai at the occasion of the ceremonies in France, Algeria and Spain.
- 2019; He welcomed Prof. Hounsai and Viscount KURODA Hideyuki of the former Kururi fiefdom, when the Tokyo Tower held the opening ceremony of its tea pavilion Shamukyo. - 2019; He welcomed H.R.H.Count of Paris, Jean d'Orleans at the residence of the Japanese Ambassador to the OECD.

菅井 宗暢(裏千家)
SUGAI Socho

菅井 宗暢 SUGAI SOCHO

Director of the Association(ドイツ事務所長)

born in Kyoto. After her studies at the Musashino Art-University, Tokyo, she graduated from the Kunstakademie Dusseldorf in Germany. After receving the Paris-scholaship from the State NRW of Germany for the Cite internationale des arts, Paris, she lived and worked as an Artist in Dusseldorf. From 1998 she lived in New York for 6 years moving to Berlin in 2004, where she still lives today.
She started learning Urasenke Chado as a student, taking multiple long breaks before continuing again. In 2013 she joined Urasenke Tankokai Berlin Association, estalished that year and where she now is President of the Association.
She was given the tea name "Socho" by Zabosai Soshitsu XVI, Grand Tea Master.


藤井 宗映(江戸千家)
FUJII Soei

藤井 宗映 FUJII SOEI

Born in Fukuoka. She spent six months in Australia taking part in the inter-school exchange program when she was a high school student. After her return to Japan, she recognized the value of Japanese culture and thus started learning the tea ceremony as well as the flowers arrangement (kado). In 2014, he obtained certificates from the Omotesenke-Fakuryu school of Tea and then from the Masaki School of Kado. She has lived in France since 2015.
